Bitstamp — the EU's oldest exchange with clean accounting
Bitstamp has been operating since 2011 and holds Luxembourg + UK / Italian / French regulatory licenses. We integrate via the official API for institutional customers.
Bitstamp is one of the few exchanges with a multi-decade operating history and broad EU regulatory footprint. The product is straightforward — spot, custody, and a small set of advanced order types. The Wag3s integration ingests trade and ledger history, reconciles withdrawals / deposits to on-chain transactions, and produces the audit trail expected by EU institutional finance teams.
What the Bitstamp integration does
Spot trade and ledger ingest
Full trade history, all fiat / crypto pairs.
On-chain reconciliation
Withdrawals matched to on-chain transactions.
The connection in 4 steps
Create a read-only API key on Bitstamp
In Bitstamp account settings, generate an API key with Account Balance and Transaction History permissions only. Disable all trading and withdrawal permissions.
Connect to Wag3s
Enter your Bitstamp Customer ID, API key, and API secret in the Wag3s exchange integrations panel. We immediately pull your full trade and ledger history.
Trade and fiat pair history classified
All spot trades across BTC, ETH, XRP, EUR, USD, GBP pairs are classified with realized P&L per trade using your chosen cost-basis method (FIFO / LIFO / HIFO).
Withdrawals reconciled to on-chain
Every crypto withdrawal is matched to its corresponding on-chain transaction. Fiat withdrawals (EUR/USD/GBP) are matched to bank statement entries in your fiat integration.
Common configurations
Company holds a Bitstamp EUR account as the primary fiat on-ramp, buying BTC and ETH periodically. Finance team needs to book EUR-denominated purchases with FX conversion, apply FIFO cost-basis, and reconcile the on-chain deliveries. Wag3s handles the full loop from Bitstamp trade to wallet receipt.
Fund uses Bitstamp for spot execution under its FCA-registered activities. HMRC requires accurate cost-basis and disposal records. Wag3s ingests Bitstamp trade history, applies Section 104 pooling per HMRC rules (configurable), and exports the disposal schedule for the tax filing.
Bitstamp integration questions
Does the integration cover Bitstamp's full pair history including EUR and GBP fiat pairs?
Yes. All fiat pairs (EUR, USD, GBP, CHF) and crypto-to-crypto pairs are ingested. Fiat-denominated trades are valued at the transaction-time rate; FX gain/loss on fiat balances is tracked separately.
How are older Bitstamp accounts with data going back to 2011 handled?
We backfill from account inception via the Bitstamp API. For very old accounts (pre-2015) where the API has historical gaps, we can ingest Bitstamp's CSV export as a supplementary source to fill missing periods.
Is Bitstamp's Luxembourg custody structure reflected in the accounting?
The Bitstamp entity holding client assets (Bitstamp Europe S.A. in Luxembourg) is surfaced as the custodian in Wag3s. For EU reporting purposes, this is relevant for counterparty classification and MiCA-aligned reporting.
