Gemini — NYDFS-regulated, audit-friendly accounting
Gemini's NYDFS BitLicense and SOC 2 Type II make it the regulated-first US exchange. We integrate cleanly for institutional accounting.
Gemini is the NYDFS-regulated US exchange — the same compliance posture institutions look for when picking custody. The product mix includes Spot, ActiveTrader (advanced order types), Custody, Earn (paused at time of writing in some jurisdictions), and the Gemini USD stablecoin. The integration covers all live products.
What the Gemini integration does
Spot + ActiveTrader ingest
Both surfaces under one API key.
Custody balance reconciliation
Gemini Custody flows tracked alongside trading activity.
GUSD treatment
Gemini USD stablecoin classified correctly per jurisdiction.
The connection in 4 steps
Create a read-only API key on Gemini
In Gemini account settings, generate an API key with Auditor permissions (read-only). Enable access to account balances, transaction history, and order history. Disable trading and transfer permissions.
Connect to Wag3s
Enter your Gemini API key and secret in the Wag3s exchange integrations panel. We discover all Gemini accounts, including trading, Custody, and ActiveTrader, under the same key.
Trade history classified with realized P&L
All Spot and ActiveTrader fills are classified with realized P&L using your configured cost-basis method. GUSD holdings are treated as USD-equivalent with no gain/loss on conversion in most jurisdictions (configurable).
On-chain reconciliation and Custody balance tracking
Crypto withdrawals from Gemini are matched to on-chain receipts. Gemini Custody balances are tracked and reconciled against the Wag3s-computed totals daily.
Common configurations
Pension fund advisor requires all crypto custody to be held with a NYDFS-regulated entity. Gemini Custody satisfies that requirement. Wag3s ingests custody and trading activity, produces the monthly position report, and feeds the data to the fund's audit-ready accounting system.
Regulated broker-dealer uses Gemini for compliant spot execution. The SOC 2 Type II certification and BitLicense are prerequisites from the compliance team. Wag3s produces the trade-by-trade audit trail with cost-basis, matching Gemini's own 1099-DA style reporting for cross-reference.
Gemini integration questions
How is Gemini's staking (Gemini Earn / staking) handled after the program changes?
Gemini paused Earn in some jurisdictions following regulatory actions. Wag3s accurately reflects the state at the time of each event — rewards received before the pause are booked as income; frozen balances are flagged with a status note. The treatment is updated as the status evolves.
Does the integration support Gemini's institutional (Prime) accounts?
Yes. Gemini Prime institutional accounts use the same API surface as consumer accounts with additional endpoints. Wag3s supports both; institutional accounts typically benefit from the Custody reconciliation feature.
How is GUSD classified?
GUSD (Gemini USD) is treated as a USD-denominated stablecoin. In most jurisdictions, converting USD to GUSD and back is not a taxable event (stablecoin peg maintained). Wag3s applies the USD-equivalent treatment by default; this is configurable per jurisdiction.
