Mobula — crypto market data for fair-value accounting

Every cost-basis calculation, every tax form, every fair-value mark needs a reliable price feed. Mobula is one of ours.

dataread-only sync Real-time

Mobula is one of the upstream price-data providers Wag3s uses for fair-value accounting and tax-form generation. The integration is part of the Wag3s platform itself — customers don't usually configure it, but it's listed here so anyone evaluating Wag3s can understand the data sources behind cost-basis calculations.

The connection in 4 steps

01

Mobula price feed activated automatically

Wag3s activates Mobula as a price-feed source during workspace setup. No separate API key is required from the customer — the integration runs at the platform level.

02

Token registry lookup for small-cap and DeFi tokens

For each token in your portfolio that is not covered by CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap, Wag3s queries Mobula's expanded registry to retrieve a price at transaction time.

03

Historical OHLC lookup for retroactive cost basis

When backfilling transaction history, Wag3s uses Mobula's historical OHLC data to assign an accurate cost basis to each historical acquisition, including tokens not listed on major aggregators at the time.

04

Fair-value mark computed at period-end

At period close, Wag3s uses Mobula spot prices to mark every open position to fair value, supporting ASU 2023-08 and IAS 38 mark-to-market requirements.

Common configurations

DeFi protocol holding a long tail of governance tokens

The treasury holds 30+ ERC-20 governance tokens, many of which are not listed on CoinGecko. Wag3s uses Mobula to price each position at transaction time, ensuring accurate cost basis and fair value without manual price lookups.

Crypto fund with small-cap altcoin exposure

The fund holds early-stage tokens that only have Mobula coverage during their first weeks of trading. Wag3s retrieves Mobula OHLC data for the acquisition period and locks cost basis correctly before the tokens graduate to larger price aggregators.

DAO receiving novel token grants from ecosystem partners

A DAO receives a grant in a newly launched token with limited exchange listings. Wag3s queries Mobula for on-chain price discovery data to value the grant at receipt, producing an accurate income entry for the accounting period.

Mobula integration questions

Which tokens does Mobula cover that CoinGecko or CMC do not?

Mobula indexes tokens directly from on-chain DEX liquidity pools, covering newly launched tokens, small-cap DeFi assets, and long-tail ERC-20s typically not listed on CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap within their first weeks of trading.

What happens if Mobula has no price data for a token?

Wag3s flags the transaction as unpriced and surfaces it in the review queue. Finance teams can manually assign a price or mark the token as zero-value. An audit note is attached to the transaction record.

Can customers configure which price source takes priority for a given token?

Yes. Wag3s applies a priority order — CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, Mobula, then manual override. Customers can adjust the priority per token in the workspace settings if a specific source is more reliable for their portfolio.
